Quotes:

(00:04:49) It didn't have to be drugs or alcohol. It could just be, hey, look, man, I grew up and my mom was my inspiration and held it down for nine kids and had to move 50 different states, and there's only 50 of them. But would you say that impacted your I mean, you already said that's where you got your work ethic, so what did that do for you?

(00:08:20) Nobody can do this better than me.

(00:13:14) I sell time, which is the one resource you can't actually buy. I sell time because we build automated systems that're going to get you micro minutes back, right? Like if you do the same five minute task ten times a day. Now, that's 50 minutes that you just spent. You compound that by a week, that's 5 hours. Compound that by a month, that's 20 hours. I just saved you on a five minute task that you've dismissed because it just takes five minutes.

(00:17:31) My whole life I was told just get good grades in school, you're going to go to college, you're going to get a job at Microsoft. That's what I worked towards my entire life was like this coveted six figure salary at some big company and then four years into Microsoft I finally got it finally a house way bigger than I needed. Huge 40 x 40, shop 20 cars in the driveway, eating a steak every night. More fake friends than I could even keep up with, six figure salary. And I was like, man is this it? This can't be like everything there is to life.

(00:21:49) You got to come out on top, you know what I mean? And then you started your own brand, and how long would you say before it successfully kind of got to where it is now? Because we've got a book, right? You've written a book, and the book is kind of like the prelude or the backbone. I guess that's what you're doing now.

(00:31:07) My biggest piece of advice is to operate like you already run a 100 million dollar operation. That's how we're building and scaling is my team and everything. We're a 100 million dollar operation. Whether we're actually a 100 million dollar operation right now or not, we're operating it like one.

(00:32:25) Swallow your ego. You're not the only motherfucker that can do it.

Are you looking for advice on how to scale your business? If so, you're in luck! Marv, a self-made entrepreneur from Salem, Oregon, and Kenny Baden, a former Microsoft engineer, recently had a conversation about scaling a business, and it was full of valuable insights.

Marv, who was born and raised all over the south, moved to Oregon from Dallas and got a job at Microsoft within a year of moving there. Kenny, on the other hand, was hired to lead a team at Microsoft within three months of joining. Both Marv and Kenny have built successful businesses and share their experiences and advice on how to scale a business.

They discussed the importance of hiring the right people, having the right processes and systems in place, and having the right tools and technology to help automate and streamline processes. Marv and Kenny also discussed the importance of delegating and letting go of the reins in order to scale the business.

Kenny suggested that people should hit Marv up in his DMs if they want access to the juicy stuff and mentioned that he will be a guest on Marv's upcoming podcast, Memory Lane. Kenny also shared his own experience with scaling a business. He was washing cars at Enterprise and doing door-to-door sales to make side money when he developed a dual funnel system, which he didn't have a name for at the time. He made $30,000 in a three-month time span, but then had to deal with chargebacks and other issues. He went to work at another agency for six months to learn how to build a team and culture, and then recruited his two brothers to help him build his business. He is now focusing on productizing his dual funnel system so he can license it to other agencies. Kenny's advice to other entrepreneurs is to operate like they already run a 100 million dollar operation.

Marv has written a book called the Personal Brand Blueprint, which is available on Amazon and his website, Marvinsworld US. He left Microsoft with only seven thousand dollars in the bank and invested almost all of his money to attend a live event hosted by Billy Jean. At the event, Marv read Russell Brunson's book, Dotcom Secrets, which suggested creating an attractive character or avatar to represent the brand. Marv created the Big Marv brand and within three months was making thirty thousand dollars a month. Billy Jean invested in his students and was aware of Marv's content, and encouraged him to go home and build a brand around the Big Marv character. Marv had to put in the work after the event to make his success happen.

The logo for Automation Goat Corporation, Marv's company, is a goat head, which is a double entendre for Greatest of All Time. Marv's hat is for his own brand, Big Marv, which he has been unable to exit. Marv believes his work ethic comes from his mother's ability to hold it down for her nine kids, and he is grateful for her encouragement to get a job at Microsoft and change the family's legacy.

Marv and Kenny will be seeing each other next month in Dallas and will be discussing their experiences on Marv's upcoming podcast, Memory Lane. If you want to learn more about scaling a business, keep an eye out for Marv's podcast and don't forget to hit him up in his DMs if you want exclusive access to some of his content.
